KIDS HELPING KIDS School program — In the Bag
Parents, teachers, schools and kids, please join us in our In The Bag School project to change. It’s really easy to make it possible for these kids to have school bags, water bottles and solar lights. Download the material below in the In the Bag Kit, and soon you small acts will have a big impact for hundreds of children.
In the Bag supports HUG, Help Us Grow
HUG, (Help us Grow) is an Australian and Ugandan grassroots organisation that is making education possible for hundreds of children. They have built a school, Suubi Secondary College in a small village called Lubanda, eight hours from Kampala, the capital of Uganda in East Africa.
While HUG has made it possible for children from 23 neighbouring villages to have the life-changing possibilities that education affords, the students must walk huge distances every day to and from the school, carrying their books.
They have no means by which they can drink water as they walk, and they come home at night and must study by the dim light of a candle or dangerous paraffin lamps.
For our children here in Australia, this is an unimaginable scenario.
But here is how our kids can make a difference
CreateCare Global has a mandate to support abandoned, orphaned or vulnerable children worldwide.
We have developed a schools’ program, Kid helping Kids.
Our aim is to provide Australian school children with the opportunity to use their creative problem-solving skills to make a tangible difference in the lives of their disadvantaged peers. In the Bag, is one such project.
The In the Bag fundraising project
We have created three easy fundraising ideas to help these kids make a school bag to carry their books, own their own drink bottle and study at night by a solar light.
Your In the Bag Kit
The overview
This booklet explains how the Kids Helping Kids school student program which includes In the Bag works to develop the skills your children need in the future: creativity, problem solving and communication. You can download the Overview here.
The video
Copy this link and you can watch it together in class.
Candlelight Night
For a simple gold coin donation and under the supervision of adults, how many pages can you read by candlelight.
Books in Arms
How many books can you carry in your arms around how many laps of your school oval. Ask your friends and family to sponsor you.
Footsteps for water
Carrying a cup brimful of water, how many footsteps can you take without spilling a drop. Ask your friends and family to guess and to sponsor you a cent a step.
Download the kit
Together these fundraising games will ensure that other kids don’t have to study by candlelight, carry their books or endure thirst. If you would like to participate, all the collateral you need is easily downloaded in the left hand column. Thank you for your contribution.
Collecting the money
When you have collected your money, students pass this on to the appropriate teacher or co-ordinator of your school who will send it to CreateCare Global. The money raised is passed directly onto HUG for purchase of school bag material, water bottles and solar lamps.
One off donations
If you’d be willing to make a one off donation, we’d put that money toward buying two industrial sewing machines for the students to sew their school bags. This is an invaluable investment as the students learn enterprise skills and the potential to earn additional income.
